Pell Grants May Be Cut

In an article in the detnews.com the possibility of cuts to Pell Grant Funding is discussed. More than 9 million students use the program. The maximum amount per student per year is $5,500.  In the spring budget debates in Congress cuts to the program were suggested. However, in the budget deal small changes were made to the program instead.

But with a projected Pell Grant budget shortfall of $1.3 billion in 2012, Congress will be looking to cut the program. Some of the major changes could be limiting the number of semesters undergraduates could receive the grant. It is believed that the program will undergo these and other changes, but will remain available for many students.
