On September 14, 2011 an explosion of gas from the sun caused the earth to experience both northern and southern auroa's. The gas did not reach earth until Monday September 26, 2011.
Spaceweather.com reported that the magnetic aftershocks from that explosion caused parts of Canada, and some northern U.S. States to see the northern lights. Included in this was Michigan, which had the opportunity to see the northern lights on Wednesday September 28, 2011.
