Next Week: 2011 Fall Career Fair
Every year Academic Advising and Career Center holds a number of Career Fairs for UM-Flint students. This year's Fall Career Fair takes place in the Recreation Center on campus next Wednesday, October 12th from 12 p.m. to 3 p.m. So far over 45 employers have registered to attend.
The Fall Career Fair is specifically held for students and alumni of UM-Flint who are seeking full-time positions, cooperative education and/or internships.

UM-Flint gets a Film and Media Club
According to the MTimes, The Film and Media club is brand new to the UM-Flint Campus. The Film and Media club will give students a chance to showcase their artistic talents.
The club was started by Ramone Williams (a fellow ITS Helpdesk co-worker), a junior majoring in Computer Information Systems, and Brent Crews, a sophomore majoring in Business Management. Both of whom had just recently graduated from Mott Community College and transferred to UM-Flint, where they noticed there was no sort of film or media club on campus already. The two started the club just recently and already have about 26 members.
“Along with the long term goal of working on a short movie, we are essentially the forum to allow students to showcase their artistic talents,” Williams told MTimes via email interview.
Williams outlines more of the clubs current goals, “We also plan to be able to create videos for other student organizations, UM-Flint in general, and Greater Flint,” Williams said. “We felt that the students don’t get enough of a chance to show their abilities and have a sense that they’re accomplishing something other than academics here.”
Currently the club's tentative schedule for bi-weekly meetings will be Tuesdays and Thursdays from 5 p.m. to 6 p.m. Anyone interested in joining the club should contact Ramone Williams or Brent Crews. The club also has a Facebook page.

Governor to ask for accelerated review under emergency manager law
We all know Flint's dire financial situation is getting worse and worse. Which prompted state Treasurer Andy Dillion to recommend an accelerated review of the city's finances, according to officials.
On Friday, Governor Rick Snyder appointed an eight-member review team, and requested the team to report its findings within 30 days. That is only half the time allowed under the emergency financial manager law, which is formally known as Public Act 4 of 2011.

Justin Verlander helps Tigers to a Game 3 Win
Last night at Comerica Park in Detroit, Justin Verlander was on the mound pitching after two days off. Although Verlander did not bring his best stuff, he did strike out eleven batters last night to lead the Detroit Tigers to a 5-4 victory in game 3. The Tigers now Lead the American League Division Series two games to one.
Game 4 is scheduled for tonight at about 8:37 PM, and Game 5 (if necessary) will be in New York on Thursday starting at about 8:37 PM.

Flint gas prices on the decline
Flint residents may soon be finding relief at the pump when it comes to gas prices. According to Michigan AAA, local gas prices are falling. The average price in Flint is $3.28 per gallon, according to ABC12. The current price is roughly 50 cents less than a month ago, but still about 50 cents more than a year ago.
